Kamden woke up early the next day. His head pounding from enjoying the festivities the night before. He was more then ready to start moving his things away from the canidate rooms to a new one suited for his training.
He paused once dressed in normal cloths. He had left al of his canidate uniforms and robes on a pile on his bare bed. All of his gear was packed, ready to be moved next to the door. Kamden paused just outside the door. Seeing the hanging beasts for the new dragonets. He clentched his jaw and strod towards the infirmary after a quick bite tofill his insides.
He stepped into the room and let his eyes adjust to being indoors. "D'ril sir. Reporting for training sir." He said looking around.,,,

When Kamden arrived in the infirmary, D'rik was already hard at work. The tables in front of him were covered with herbs in various states, as the man prepared fresh salves prior to his work starting in earnest.
Hearing Kamden's voice, he raised his head, but remained with a mortar and pestle in hand, crushing some various leaf into a fine powder.
"Good morning. As of my last rounds, everyone was fairly stable so I figured we could start with some fresh salves and ointments." His shoulders shrugged as he continued grinding away. "You could rely on the Weyr herbalist for them, but they don't always put the concentrations I like in them. Their training is focused on humans, and the physiology of dragonkind can cause some of them to be affected differently."
Pausing he glanced into the container, and satisfied poured the powder into a small pot of simmering water.
"So Kamden, I know you have some experience with working with the dragons, but tell me, have you just worked on superficial injuries, or have you had the experience of more...serious wounds as well?"

Kamden shrugged. "Not to much. Mainly I helped calm down the dragon or its rider. Slathering on numbweed and sewing up small things. Things like that." He was looking over the things spread out but not daring to touch them yet.
"If there was bad dammage someone with more talent came and took over."

"Hopefully with bad damage, there were several helping you." The dragon healer smiled, and stirred the pot slowly. The scent of the herbwork was nearly overpowering, even in this open section of the infirmary.
"Calming is an important skill, probably one of the most important a healer can have. You need to be able to relate with your patient, and let them understand what is going on. Many of them are scared, if not for themselves, for their rider who is frequently injured as well."
He withdrew the sthingy, and placed it to the side of the table. Moments later the pot was removed from the flame, and D'rik turned to the young man.
"Your room will be just down the hall here. It's not much, but luckily all of the infirmary staff rooms have private baths. It's pretty barren, but I took the liberty of dropping off a few pots of redwort, so make sure you are using it whenever you are ready to work on the patients. Over the next few weeks we will go into a lot more detail on the herbs and all." D'rik put a lid over the pot, and picked up a skin, raising it to his lips and drinking deeply. Passing it towards the young man he grinned. "Fresh Klah, life in a skin. During a threadfall you will drink more of it than you thought possible."

Kamden nodded. "I'm used to having to use it. I have my things ready to be brought over." The young man adcepted the klah and took a drink. It helped clear his head some.
"Would you like me to move it over here now?"

"It can wait if you don't need it. I am sure that it is safe within the candidate's barracks. I don't believe to many of the next group have arrived yet." The DH proceeded to wash his hands carefully, ensuring that nothing graced them before applying a generous dosage of redwort.
"If you would like, I need to check on a rather deep scoring. I would appreciate your assistance."

Kamden nodded and went to wash his hands throughly before coating them in the smelly redwort.
"How deep and where was the dragon scored?" He asked while he was doing this.

"Dangerously near the leading edge. The thread caught him across the shoulder. He likely won't fly for the next few threadfalls at least, if again this turn."
The healer began to cross the infirmary, pausing as he reached a great brown that was sleeping fitfully, his left wing carefully braced.
Sigi, tell Manoth that we are going to check his wound, and it may hurt a bit.
Sigiath was out of sight, but woke the brown, relaying the healer's message quickly. As he did the brown turned his head towards the two that approached, dull grey eyes just off the ground where his jaw rested.
"Manoth, this is Kamden...he is here to help me tend to your wing." The healer paused before the brown briefly, bowing his head towards it respectfully.

Kamden made a bow to the poor brown as well. "Good moring brown Manoth." HE said keeping his voice cheery as he turned to look at the brown's wing.
He nodded to D'ral to show that he was ready. His hand had started to carress the broown on a safe noninjured spot. "What a big strong patient you have here D'ral." He said winking at the healer...

ooc...psst...it's D'RIK!!1
A few steps were next to the brown, giving room for D'rik and Kamden to climb up to get a good view of where the wound was. Once he reached a height where he could address it, D'rik placed his hand on the dressing that covered the wound itself, taking both hands to the silken cloth.
"Alright my friend, here we go."
Peeling the material back, he revealed a deep scoring, the edges of which thick dragonic muscles could clearly be seen. A thick layer of mosstea was packed within, and slowly the DH began to remove it.
"Manoth was injured three threadfalls ago. The injury destroyed the strap that held his rider, and he was unwilling to go between until he was able to get him within his grip. The thread of course died at that point, but the damage was done."
A hole large enough to place 4 large fists within was hidden beneath the packing, the flesh red and tender.

OOC: eekk sorry about that...
Kamden schooled his facial reactions. "Well your looking better my friend" he said seeing the tender redness as growth of new tissue.
"I bet that with the good dragon healer here, you will be chasing some pretty green's tail soon enough. But first we need to make sure you are better."
"D'rik would yo ube putting more numbweed on first to sooth him?" He asked not sure of what the healer wanted him to do.

"Nothing wrong with numbweed, it's many a healer's best friend. I personally prefer to only use it on superficial wounds though." The red-haired healer smiled, pulling out a small jar from his satchel and opening it. He handed the jar to Kamden, indicating for him to hold it for a moment.
"As an apprentice, you will be learning about general upkeep of the infirmary, and how to take care of the instruments." He tipped a skin at his waist, pouring some of the redwort within over his hands again. As he continued speaking he took a handful of the salve and began to coat the inside of the wound liberally.
"You will assist in harvesting some of the herbs we uses, and also help out in various procedures. You will learn of the dragon's anatomy, and assist with the feeding, oiling and cleaning of the injured dragons. I will teach you both of the general care used by many DH's, and then some of the specifics that I prefer, and in time allow you to make your own choices on what you believe to be most effective, as long as it does not endanger the dragons."
"The salve I am using is primarily numbweed, but due to the depth of the wound, I have added comfey and cayenne to it, for a longer term numbing and to irritate the tissue into increasing the bloodflow. That of course will help it to heal quicker." Reaching for his waist again, the healer wiped the excess salve off his hands before rerinsing them, and taking the jar from Kamden's hands again. Sealing it, he replaced it into his satchel, and pulled out a small sack of crushed mosstea. "The mosstea helps to prevent infection, and in large wounds that is one of your first priorities."
The mosstea was loosely placed into the wound, and after being placed back in the healer's satchel, he took the edge of the silken bandage, and reconnected it to the frame that held the dragon's wing.
"It is healing well Manoth, but it will still be a while before we have you up and flying. T'dar told me they should be letting him out of bed today, and he said one of your clutchmates will be bringing you a fresh wherry though." He smiled to the brown and started down the steps, glancing back to Kamden.
"Any questions so far?"

Kamden was used so far with the things D'rik had used. "no sir. Not with what we are using so far."
He paused letting his hand gently carress the big brown. "How many times will we change Manoth's wrappings per day?"

"If he continues to heal as he is doing, twice daily. Generally I have been changing him after his breakfast and dinner." He paused briefly before nodding to the young man. "At times, our friends can tend to be a little messy with eating." He grinned lightly, and continued walking.
The two walked past a handful of other dragons and their riders, the DH making idle commments about each ones injuries, and healing status. Luckily for both none at the moment were critical, so in time, the two arrived at the herb garden that was present in one of the better lit sections of the infirmary.
"The more common herbs we grow ourselves here, but there are many that we will have to leave the weyr for later. Do you recognize any of these ones?" D'rik wasn't asking to intimidate the youth, but rather to get a general feel for Kamden's knowledge.
